A drop on a brazier (Luke 10:17-24)
Reflections by Don Fabio
I only knew you through hearsay,
but now my eyes have seen you. (Job 42:5)
Luke 10:17-24: “I praise you, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned and have revealed them to little ones.”
Today, October 1, is the liturgical memorial of Saint Therese of Lisieux. I take inspiration from the words of Jesus, who thanks the Father because he revealed his immensity to the little ones, to share with you the first verses of a poem by Teresina which, starting from her experience of being forgiven, describes the mercy of God:
“If I had ever committed the worst of crimes, I would forever maintain the same confidence, for I know that this multitude of offenses is but a drop of water in a burning brazier.”
How many times do we consider ourselves not "deserving" of the Father's love, or we judge our sins to be greater than his Mercy. It's not like that! Nothing, nothing, and I repeat, nothing and no one is greater than the Love, Forgiveness and Mercy of God, and our mistakes, our sins, as Teresina says, are nothing more than small drops of water that fall into a burning brazier, which is the heart of God (imagine the scene: they vaporize even before reaching the embers).
And I hope that you and I will have the same experience as Saint Therese when she realized that God: “…he is my support, he never abandons me, he loves everything in me, even my weakness, and he never leaves me, neither day nor night”.
With love, Fabio!
