"In a conception of human action, which best highlights the symbolic character of an action, in which personal intention is incorrect and expressed, it could also be better to make reason for how a homosexual act can be an expression of personal love.
A symbolic conception of the actions is supported, however by a more overall symbolic anthropology, made its own by the same magisterium of the Church, for which the human person is a unified totality of spirit and body.
Given this symbolic anthropology, there is no personal love that is not bodily and therefore, to the extent that the ability to love the ability to donate to others is recognized to the homosexual person, one should also recognize the possibility, if not the inevitability, which is expressed in the deeds of the body".
This is one of the most innovative passages of the book "possible love" with which Don Aristide Fumagalli, teacher of moral theology at the theological faculty of northern Italy, addresses the theme of the moral evaluation of the experience of lesbians and gay. For years a Catholic theologian did not come to such courageous conclusions.
