“God does not show preference for people” (Acts 10,34-35) will be the verse that will unite the Vigils for overcoming homotransbiphobia 2025 in May
Every year, May lights up with hope and commitment to the Ecumenical prayer vigils and Sunday services dedicated to overcoming homotransbiphobia and any discrimination. This year, the biblical verse that will guide this spiritual and community journey which was the most voted in online public consultation, just concluded, is taken from the Acts of the Apostles 10,34-35: “In truth I am realizing that God does not show preference for people, but welcomes those who fear him and practice justice, whatever people they belong to.".
These words, pronounced by Peter in the house of Cornelius, resonate as an appeal to all the Churches and believing communities: God calls us to abandon prejudice and to open ourselves to universal love. It is a radical message that invites us to recognize the beauty of diversity, affirming that no one is excluded from His embrace.
Peter himself, after facing his own prejudices, recognizes that the Holy Spirit manifests himself in ways that defy human convention. The story of Acts is a testimony of inclusion: anyone, regardless of their identity, orientation or background, is welcomed by God. This verse speaks directly to LGBT+ people, their family members and anyone who has been marginalized or hurt by human judgement.
Vigils and cults as places of light and reconciliation
Since 2007, believers of different denominations – Waldensians, Catholics, Methodists, Baptists and others – have gathered with LGBT+ Christians and their families to testify that faith cannot be separated from acceptance. The ecumenical prayer vigils and Sunday services for overcoming homotransbiphobia and any discrimination are spiritual moments to overcome the violence and silence that fuel discrimination.
These moments of prayer are spaces of reconciliation, where the wounds of rejection are healed in the light of the Gospel and community. Here prayer is transformed into concrete action, reminding us that following Christ means rejecting every form of oppression.
Participating in the ecumenical prayer vigils and Sunday services means making a clear choice: testifying that God welcomes everyone, without exceptions. It is an invitation to build a Church that reflects His immense mercy, where every person can feel fully loved and valued.
We invite you to join us, in celebrating a gospel that breaks barriers, that affirms that God's love is greater than any human prejudice. Because “God does not show partiality” is not just a verse, but a call to all men and women of good will to act to change our world.
