"... in the evening of life we will be judged on love." (San Giovanni della Croce)
Reflections by Don Fabio
Matteo: 22: 34-40: "You will love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul and with all your mind". This is the great and first commandment. The second is similar to that: "You will love your neighbor as yourself".
Everyone says it a little and on so many slopes ... if you don't love you, if you don't respect you, if you don't take care - you first - of yourself, the others will hardly do it! And it's not easy and obvious! And already because, as they say, and it is true, a person cannot give what he does not have, what he has not lived, what he has not experienced.
If by chance, unfortunately, for many reasons, during our growth we have not experienced feeling loved, or worse, we were "educated" to hold back the feelings, not to manifest them, not to expose ourselves ... we will be convinced that we are not worthy Of love, not to deserve the love of others, and we will settle for surrogates of love, and perhaps we will move away from us who could really love us.
We learn to love discovering and feeling loved. And this happens in our family environment. The parents are the first "transmitters" of love. Attention, I am not only referring to the so -called "traditional family", but to all family contexts: with a single parent, with parents of the same sex, with parents of different sex, etc. What remains in the heart of the son is the love that has been received, and to the extent that we will receive it, we will be able to donate it; Maybe even more.
Of course, you can always learn to love, even as adults, but it becomes more and more complicated. And all this we project it into the love that has for us for us. Luckily at least he loves us anyway, and to be regardless of everything!
With love, Fabio!
