"Lord, show us the Father and enough" (John 14: 7-14)
Biblical reflections by Mauro Leonardi*, priest and writer
"Lord, show us his father and enough": this phrase by Filippo may seem truly brazen. Yet we too can meet the Father through Jesus every day in the Mass, we often remain indifferent and do not believe the true nature of love.
From the Gospel according to John 14: 7-14
At that time, Jesus said to his disciples: "If you know me, you will also know the Father: you know him since now and you have seen him". Filippo said to him, "Lord, show us his father and enough for us." Jesus replied: «For a long time I have been with you and you have not known me, Filippo? Whoever saw me saw the father. How can you say: show us the father? Don't you think I'm in the Father and the Father is in me? The words I say to you, I don't tell you from me; But the father who is with me performs his works. Believe me: I am in the Father and the father is in me; If nothing else, believe it for the works themselves. In truth, in truth I tell you: even those who believe in me will make the works that I do and will make bigger, because I go to the father ». Whatever you ask in my name, I will do it, so that the father is glorified in the son. If you ask me something in my name, I will do it. "
