"The memories, even more extensive, do not always constitute an autobiography". This phrase by Walter Benjamin is the key to the reading with which Piergiorgio Paterlini invites us to read his latest book that, despite the title, in which the "confession" refers does not tell the facts as a spontaneous admission of guilt, but if anything as A declaration of intent that the author claims to show us the man who has become.
"Confiteor It is the story of the man who has become, not a flow of consciousness, but facts, stories. And the crossing, in seventy years of life, of three centuries, from my "nineteenth" to today ". Seductive, courageous and, above all, generous, Paterlini moves between time and space with reasoned discontinuity, as it is not the chronological sequence that interests him, but the dynamics thanks to which convictions and life choices are measured.
The narrative thus allows each reader to measure themselves with the pieces that make up their lives. All offered with the intellectual honesty that has always distinguished Paterlini, author in 1991 of Guys who love guys: 20 thousand copies only in the first two months, and, to date, more than twenty reprints, re -edited by Einaudi in 2024. More recent, among other volumes, two four -handed "autobiographies", with Gianni Vattimo (Not to be God) and with the Nobel Prize Giorgio Parisi (Steps that never end).
