"On the day of judgment, the South Queen will get up ..." (Luke 11: 29-32)
Biblical reflections by Mauro Leonardi*, priest and writer
Jonah had received a sign, but not if he considered worthy, and so all his life experienced the imparity between his fragility and the spirit that asked him to operate for God, for the conversion of sinners. But that was his prayer. The generation to which Jesus speaks is an evil generation, he only seeks the self -satisfaction of an explicit sign, because instead he wants a God with whom to worst; In this way they cannot recognize the nature of gratuity.
From the Gospel according to Luca 11: 29-32
At that time, while the crowds crowded, Jesus began to say:
«This generation is an evil generation; It seeks a sign, but no sign will be given to her, if not the sign of Jonah. Since, as Jonah was a sign for those of Nìnive, so even the son of man will be for this generation.
On the day of judgment, the South Queen will get up against the men of this generation and condemn them, because she came from the extreme borders of the earth to listen to the wisdom of Solomon. And here, here is a bigger one than Solomon.
On the day of judgment, the inhabitants of Nìnive will raise against this generation and condemn it, because they converted to the preaching of Jonah. And here, here is a bigger one than Jonah ».
