Gesù per compiere il miracolo, chiedi a noi la nostra umanità
Reflections on the Advent season by Luigi Testa*
"I feel sympathy for the crowd. I don't want to send them away fasting, so that they don't fail along the way." And the disciples said to him: "How can we find so many loaves in a desert to feed such a large crowd?". Jesus asked them: "How many loaves do you have?". They said: «Seven, and a few little fish» (Mt 15,32-34)
You could have done everything, and instead, so that everyone can eat their fill, you trigger this dialogue with us, to make us share in your compassion, to let us enter into the dynamism of your heart. Our entire story with you is nothing more than the intertwining of your compassion and our response.
Christmas is like that too. You have compassion, you don't want us to go without food. And, to perform the miracle, ask something of us – ask for our humanity.
Thus, your Love is kneaded into our flesh, the beats of your divine Heart are the beats of a heart like ours, no one will ever be able to separate us again, and only in this way will everyone truly eat their fill.
