We are all crazy... but for Jesus?
Reflections by Giuseppe M. del LGBT Young Christian Project
"Take me for crazy, yes… crazy for Jesus” is a remix that has gone viral in recent days both as a video on Instagram and as an audio on TikTok.
But what lies behind this phrase?
It all dates back to 2018 when a boy, Alessandro, an evangelical from the "Chiesa Cristiana Parola Della Grazia" in Palermo, openly testified to his story of conversion (... if we can call it that) "from homosexual to heterosexual" thanks to Jesus.
During a conference, Alessandro said he had "defeated" homosexuality: "«It was a false identity that the enemy had given me. But I grew up with this identity. I declared myself to my parents and my mother immediately said to me "but is there anyone who forces you to be like this?". (…) And that evening God changed my life because I decided to remove the mask. I said “Lord I don't know how to change, if it is your will change me”. (…) I'm here to say that the devil stole my identity when I was little, but Jesus took it out of his hands and gave it back to me and I want to give advice to people: you are not like that, it's not nature , it is the devil who clings to your pain and puts walls in front of you and is deceiving you".
The story had created a great stir, so much so that the television program "Le Iene" had also covered it by interviewing Alessandro.
You can find the service here “From gay to heterosexual thanks to Jesus”.
On that occasion he stated:
"Homosexuality is not a disease, but I am healed: it is not a disease but I am healed from the wounds of my childhood. I'm starting to evaluate women in a different way. I'm starting to have a physical attraction, whereas before I only saw the woman as a friend".
Paolo, volunteer of Evangelical Project and Giuseppe, volunteer of the LGBT Young Christian Project, explored Alessandro's testimony, focusing on the thorniest passages, and comparing themselves with Gabriele Bertin, candidate for the pastoral ministry of the Waldensian church and deputy secretary of the FGEI.
For those who were a little disturbed by the remix “Take me for crazy, yes…. crazy for Jesus" and also for those who, curious, want to delve deeper into Alessandro's testimony with us, here is a list of the articles published on Gionata in this regard.
- Can sexual orientation be determined by specific family dynamics such as the famous "absent father"? If a child plays with dolls or watches "girly" cartoons, will he become homosexual? We have tried to answer these questions from the point of view of science here: Mom, dad: I'm homosexual and it's no one's fault
- Is it right for a mother to pray to God for the "healing" of her homosexual son? We asked the pastor:As a parent with a homosexual child, what is it right for me to pray to God for?
- Your will be done. Or let mine be done? (Then change me!) What is God's will for us homosexuals?
- Can the identity of a homosexual be considered a contraband identity passed to us by Satan? And does identifying as homosexual unequivocally mean staying away from God? Can my identity in Christ coexist with my homosexuality?
- Salvation that changes. A few words about pornography.
- Is it right that a homosexual should feel judged by his own church?
- Does the Salvation given to us by God imply the renunciation of homo-affective orientation?
