IDAHOT 2024. Cities where a prayer vigil will be held to overcome homotransbiphobia
“Be strong and take heart, and have no fear of them: for it is the Lord your God who is going with you; he will not take away his help from you” (Deuteronomy 31:6) is the biblical verse and that will unite the vigils and services for overcoming homophobia, biphobia and transphobia that will take place in May 2024. In the week before this year’s International Day Against Homophobia & Transphobia (IDAHOT) on May 17th, numerous prayer vigils in remembrance of victims of homotransphobia will once again be held in several Italian cities, as well as in various other countries in Europe.

“Do not sleep in the face of hatred, but shine the a light to cast it away, to be a beacon for those who face the violence of homophobia, biphobia, and transphobia“. This is the message of the video by visual artist Alessandro Previti (Italy), created to tell the story of prayer vigils for overcoming homophobia, biphobia, and transphobia. The video will be distributed in italian, english, français and Spanish and reminds us of the importance of vigilance together.
“We Stand for an Inclusive Church” is a series of short video interviews in which we asked believers from different churches, laypeople and pastors, parents, and LGBT+ believers, both Italian and from various countries around the world, to share with us the first coming out they experienced from an LGBT+ person and to explain why, even today, in our society and our Christian communities, it is important to stand vigilant to overcome the violence of homotransbiphobia.
The interviews were curated by Alessandro Previti and made possible with support from the Otto per Mille of the Waldensian Church to the association La Tenda di Gionata, founded on March 18, 2018, at the urging of David Esposito, a priest who passed away prematurely and who “dreamed” that our Christian communities would “enlarge the tent” (Isaiah 54) to make room for everyone to become “ever more sanctuaries of welcome and support for LGBT people and for everyone affected by discrimination.”
